Date: Saturday, October 9, 2021 @ Margam Country Park, Margam, Port Talbot, SA13 2TJ
Description: Adventure Racing for experienced adults. For solos and teams up to four. Kayaks provided for all. Bring a bike, a compass along with some map reading skills and some high energy snacks and take on the Burn in style! Medals for all finishers.
Distance & Phases: 10km run, 1km kayak, approx 2km foot orienteering, approx 50km mountain bike orienteering. There is a six-hour time limit.
Race start time: 9:00 – 09:15 am – Punch Start.
Categories: Male/female solo, Male/Female/Mixed Team up to 4 persons
Cost: £55 per person
Foot phase: A hilly and challenging 10k run on a mixture of surfaces with approximately 250 metres ascent.
Kayaking phase: The kayaking is two loops of the Margam Park lake. All kayaks and kayaking equipment is provided. Our kayaks are sit-on-tops, making it much easier to hop in and out of them!
Foot orienteering phase: A short foot orienteering phase featuring five checkpoints.
Mountain bike orienteering phase: You will be given your orienteering map at registration which will feature 10 checkpoints. Any checkpoints you do not visit incurs a time penalty. The surface is a mixture of hard and soft trails so a mountain bike is required. For those of you visiting the furthest checkpoints, you will get to enjoy the world-class mountain biking trails at Afan Mountain Biking Centre. Expect to ascend approx 2000 metres during this phase. Helmets must be worn!
Bike Hire: If you do not have a bike, you will need to hire or borrow a bike from a friend. Margam Park Adventure now hire bikes for the event. Please contact them directly
Parking: Please park in the visitor’s car park at the main entrance.
Catering: Hot & Cold snacks and drinks will be available to purchase.
